Welcome to Week Two of Tech & Tools! I know some people are still getting up to speed and finding their way, which is fine! You still have plenty of time to explore and engage with the module this month.
As you turn your attention to this week, here are ideas to get you started:
- Hop over to Why We Need Digital Literacies by Cathy Davidson to read and annotate. Some of you may remember Davidson from past CoLab programming (she did a virtual keynote for us during the final year of CPLC). She’s also the author of one of the books we gave away this spring at SPIN. Megan has gotten us started with a few annotations already — including wondering how and when we introduce digital literacy skills to students.
- As folks really get going in the module, you might want to take a look at some of the portfolio posts from last summer’s participants. Elisabeth’s reflection on having to use Second Life in graduate school always brings back memories for me! Anyone else ever use Second Life? And Laura’s reflection on the place (and ubiquitousness) of PowerPoint in our classrooms made me rethink my own relationship with that tool this past year.
- It’s always fun to kickoff this module by considering this question about what “technology” means to you. Invariably, we get lots of different definitions — share yours!
And a few reminders!
- Make sure you’ve done that Setting Your Goals activity from Intro to Pedagogy. If you’re not seeing your avatar on the home page of this module, it’s because I haven’t found that reflection yet.
- Make sure you’ve updated your profile with your Hypothesis user name.
