DESIGNING FOR EDUCATION

Design Forward

Weekly Dispatch: Monday, July 27, 2026

Hello Everyone, and welcome to the “final” week of our summer curriculum. I put that in quotes because we understand that some of you may still be catching up on module work, and you’re welcome to continue to engage with DF modules into August.

I do have some important reminders as you finish up:

  1. Make sure you mark your calendar for our U Days lunch on Thursday, August 27th from 11:30-1:30. We are going to be in Lamson Library (exact room TBD). Please register for the event so that I know who will be attending. If you can’t attend, please email me, so we can set up a one-on-one check-in.
  2. Complete the Final Reflection activity in the Designing for Education module. Even if you’re still catching up on other work, this activity is an opportunity to take a moment to reflect on where you are in your Designing Forward journey — and to provide us with important feedback to shape programming in August and beyond.
  3. Between now and our meeting on the 27th, please draft a syllabus for your own “mini-course.” This is your plan for your grant activities this coming fall/spring, and it can be focused on whatever you want to do/learn this year. You are both the designer and student of your mini-course, so use this as an opportunity to set your own goals for yourself and a plan for how to achieve them.
  4. As you’re wrapping up your activity in Designing for Education, don’t forget about being able to add Highlights. You can add highlights from the home page, your portfolio, and individual questions and portfolio pieces. These are a way for you to “bookmark” resources, conversations, and contributions that have been particularly meaningful for you.
  5. In addition, don’t forget about “Design Bites” — a way for you to share particularly creative and effective design approaches you’ve taken (or are planning on taking) in your classes. Share how you approached a whole class or just a specific assignment. Participants in DF are often looking for “practical” advice about how others have tackled challenging teaching situations; this is your chance to help us grow a library of tips!

As always, reach out if you have any questions!!

“Design Bites” are a special kind of portfolio post. They’re an opportunity for us to share practical design ideas that we’ve tried or are planning to try. As DF participants add more Bites, we will assemble a library of these that will be searchable by type, tags, and modules.

You must be a registered participant in Design Forward to complete this activity.
